We had a chance to go camping again in Port Dover with Grandma and Grandpa. It all started off very well......until I took Logan to the park. We had only been there for a few hours, and Logan wanted to go on the swing, and they only had the adult swings, which he has been on before. As I pulled the swing bak and let him go I reinforced "hang on tightly, and don't let go", the swing came back to me and then on it's way forward Logan let go with his right hand and reached back for something?? As the swing got to the high point, as it was going forward Logan slipped right off the back and landed on his hand.....and immediately started crying.
Logan is pretty tough when it comes to falls and bumps, but this time I knew something was wrong, because he would not stop crying the whole walk back to the campers. Eventually he calmed down, but any sort of pressure applied sent him into tears again, and again. He kept holding his wrist so we knew something was not right.
When we told Logan we thought we would have to take him to the hospital to see the Doctor he looked at us and said "Right now!" Aunt Alli(Logan insisted that she come with us) and I took him to the hospital, and mid way through Daddy took over for Alli. We got to the hospital at approximately 5:30...........a long 5 hours later we finally got some x-rays taken, and there it was......a "greenstick fracture" On the x-ray it looked like a bulge in the bone, and that is exactly what it is. Because children are so flexible and growing so quickly their bones bulge sometimes when such a fall occurs. The Dr. said the pain was equivalent to an adult breaking their bone. OUCH!!!!
Logan was a trooper and adjusted very well to his cast. He picked a purple cast, and got lots of attention for the next few weeks because of this thing on his wrist. The Dr. said he could continue doing whatever he normally does, because there was that much protection from the cast. So on Sat morning, he was off riding his tricycle, running, painting etc. Stuff he usually did with his right hand....he just used his left hand for. Amazing! Nothing stopped him, not even his first monkeynastix(gymnastics) class on the Tues following. People were amazed at him.
Enjoying the campfire with Daddy and Grandpa and Grandma.
Trying to get the kite up in the air.
